Treatment
The Trauma Clinic provides the services of a psychiatrist and two psychologists in private practice.
Your first meeting will usually take an hour or more and will allow a detailed
assessment of your problems. The recommended treatment options will be discussed with you and
you will be involved in the formulation of a treatment plan.
Usually this will be followed either by routine brief follow-up appointments (typically
lasting 20-25 minutes each) or longer therapy sessions (typically lasting about 50-60 minutes each).
We work as a multi-professional team (psychiatry and psychology) to offer the best treatment
in any individual case, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), EMDR, narrative and other
psychological therapies.
If necessary, we can arrange for a professional interpreter to be present.
We can also make arrangements to meet the needs of people with disabilities - please let us know
before your first appointment.
Further information on common treatments and clinical problems is available from the National
Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, the Royal College of Psychiatrists
and the Department of Health
web-sites. This is a sample of published information sheets for patients. We hope that this
information will help users of our services better understand their problems and some of the options
available for treatment. However, these should not be used as an alternative to detailed assessment.
